Hi Webmaister, Joe
Heron in that photo, and his wife, were
friends of my sister and her husband. He was
also a great character and well known to many of
that generation of John Street boys. He was a
fervent supporter of the Bully Wee, and in
possession of a fog-horn voice, with which he
would constantly bellow, Come On the CLYYYYYDE.
3rd from the left, and
right next to Joe, is James Spraggan.
I was in the 61st BB with him, he was the team
captain and a great player.I was a mate of his
for a few years after we left the BB. His sister Sally is
in the 1951 girls photo. Tragically, she was
murdered by her husband, in 1964, leaving 3 kids
without a mother.
Shortly after this, James and his wife took the
kids into their family and moved down to
England. I never heard any more about them.
Hopefully, they all, somehow managed to put the
horror behind them, and have had a happy life.
