All the comments about John street school has brought back many memories.I attended John St.Senior Secondary 1942 to 1945 I am sorry but my memories for names has gone .but I do remember the wood work teacher who belted the whole class when someone interfered with a joint held in a vice waiting for the glue to set after he had warned us on the threat of death not to touch it, person involved would not admit so we all suffered.
And the really big PE teacher who did the same because we would not walk in step. Incidently my memory of the strap was one with three fingers on the end went home often the three weald marks still up on my wrist, and making sure my folks did not see.
