October 2002. Agnes
Mercer (Nessie) now Martinez, Washington State, USA
Excerpt from e-mail
"I lived at 210 and 224 Baltic Street and went to Dalmarnock
School with my sisters May and Joan. 1945-1952. I could write a book
about time spent there and a good one at that. Miss Hamilton and Mr
Williamson were two of my favourite teachers. Like many others I also
remember marching into class with Miss Gibb playing the piano. Do you
remember getting the can of candy for the Queens wedding or was it her
coronation? And the orange and apple from far off distant lands?
Names that come to mind from Baltic St. are May Withers, Ruby
Mullen, Isobell Hilson, Nettie Lauder, James Kennedy, John and
Bennie Mc Lauchlan, Albie Forbes, Gorden Cameron, Sally Conroy, Grace
Connery, Georgina Reid. to mention just a few.
Other classmates such as Hugh (Shuggie ) Taylor, Lilly Robb and my very
first boyfriend Alex Strang.
Jim Scouller from Fairbairn St. is married to my sister May.
I went on to John Street S.S. and remember my home teacher was Miss
Anderson. I married Jim Gillen who also went to John Street. We had two
children, moved to the States and divorced.
I would love to hear from anyone who remembers me or my sisters. Joan is
also here in the States and she would love to hear from anyone who went to
Riverside. Feel free to email me and I will do my best to answer ASAP. I
will continue to check for new information. Thanks for all the happy
memories.
We will be home next year for a vacation between October - September.
Getting together would be fun. |
