Thanks Webmaister,
I have dipped into the website before but
have only now had a chance to see how good
it is.
I was brought up in the East End, in
Comelypark Place. You just crossed the
Gallowgate and Campbellfield Street was
almost an extension of Comelypark
Street. I attended Bernard Street
Secondary for a year, then we became 'soo
siders' and moved to Castlemilk.
Enclosed a
class picture taken around 1955/56 with
the Head Teacher (Miss Pringle) of
Campbellfield Street Primary, Glasgow and
hope this might be of
interest.

My brother,
Cecil Twiddy is on the second row from the
back in this picture. He is 2nd along
from the teacher Miss Pringle.

Hi, I was looking at the school
picture for Campbellfield Street school
1955/56 and I think my Mother is in the
photo. She sadly passed away 5 years ago
and I've been desperately trying to find
photos of her when she was little.
(mother's name then was Margaret Brannan)

B.E.M., age 74, Glasgow Hello Elaine,
I am so glad you spotted the picture, and I
can understand exactly how you felt.
Your mum is one of the girls I couldn’t put a
name to. I only went to Bernard St
for the first year of secondary and then we
moved house.
I have just called my two elderly aunts but
none of them recognised the surname.
I will do my best to get a decent copy of the
picture for you rather than a photocopy and
will let you know how I get on.
You are right, Statefield Street was
next to Comelypark Street and
Place. Some of the ladies in the
Place used to organise street concerts and the
children from Slatefield could sit on the dyke
and look over. We cut through the
back courts to get to the ‘Handy Store’ in
Slatefield for sweets. The class
‘rascal’ was Rena Parker who also lived in
Slatefield St.
One piece of useless information, Lulu was in
the class behind us although she ended up at
Thomson Street Primary. I
saw her school picture in the paper a couple
of years ago and sure enough there was Miss
Pringle wearing the same hat and tweed suit.
As I said I will see what I can do and be in
touch. Regards, Patricia
Footnote: After
receiving
email from Elaine Fleming I replied with some
information and the promise of trying to get
her a copy of the class photo. The
email address she provided was returned twice,
after which I have tried various combinations
of name, full stops, capitals and .com instead
of co.uk but no luck. Everyone has
been returned.
I would hate her to think that I am ignoring
her request but can't think what else to do.
