Going for Broke on Jesus....
by Bob Park |
"Going for Broke on Jesus”
is not a
religious story in as much as stained glass windows, high church and
ceremony are concerned. Bob was never in a church before he became
a Christian except to get married and even then
he was drunk. Jesus was
nothing more than a name in the history books.
Bob
had dragged his wife and kids through hell for years and deserved
nothing; every minute of his day would be spent
seeing how much booze he
could get down him. he was totally convinced that his future as a
family man was doomed...
Bob
prays the book will encourage people to appreciate the problems alcohol
abuse can cause to family life, but most
important,
the BOOK is NOT an argument FOR OR AGAINST
DRINKING, it is the story of how a
childlike
faith in JESUS RESTORED a BROKEN
HOME and TURNED BEER BOTTLES INTO
FURNITURE.

BBy the age of forty
Bob Park's life was spiralling
out of control to such an extent that he was
about to lose his job as a Police Officer and his
wife Anne and their three children, but sadly
there was nothing he could do about it.
.
Bob's addiction to alcohol was so severe that for
fifteen hours every day his inner craving for
liquer had to be satisfied no matter what and in
consequence family life and employment came
a poor second..... but then a miracle occurred.
One night in his bedroom, Bob who would throw
away his money during the day on cards and
horses, took a different gamble. He risked his all
on Jesus Christ. He cried out for forgiveness and
experienced an assurance that the saviour had
heard and answered his plea.
Then came another miracle, three months later
he had lost his inner craving for alcohol. He had
climbed out of the gutter of life and thirty years
on he has never returned and in these pages he
relives the incredible journey he made, not just
back to sobriety but also to a fulfilling way of life
The risk he took ....... came up trumps ! |

My
name is Bob Park, I
am married to Anne and we have one boy and two girls. I was born
top flat 62
Lambhill Street, Kinning Park on 5th August 1939.in
Glasgow, Scotland just before the war. Brought up in a slum, two
rooms housing my mum, dad, three brothers and one sister . Our
neighborhood suffered bombing from the German war planes and many
were killed. My family moved to Priesthill when I was about 11 yrs
old.
I left school aged fourteen and was employed as a Painter &
Decorator for 5 years then joined the Scots Guards for 3 years and 4
years with the reserves. I was on duty at Buckingham Palace and
accompanied the Queen on a tour of Scotland.
On leaving the Scots Guards I was a Prison Officer for 4 years then
a Policeman from early sixties to mid seventies.
Like my father I was a heavy drinker since a young age but seemed to
be fit enough to control it in these early years. I left the Police
service and became the town drunk and a drug user.
In 1976, I heard the Gospel about how Jesus Christ would accept even
me. I experienced the miracle of forgiveness and became a Christian.
It was anything but easy but the good Lord helped me kick my drink
drug abuse and my family which had suffered tremendously was united.
We love one another more than we ever did. I had been taken to court
on seven occasions for debt, the very court where I had given
evidence many times as a policeman. The shame I caused my wife and
family was horrendous and it was a miracle they stayed with me. And
I mean miracle.

I had never been in a church before I became a
Christian and Jesus
was just some sort of name in the
history books. It was a little
faith in a great Saviour that
did it. I find it almost impossible to
express the feeling
of forgiveness; it has given me a love for my
fellow man
and an abundance for my wife Anne and my three
children.
I had spent so long being violent, selfish, arrogant and
cruel to
them all, yet today we just love one another so
much. No, I don't
deserve it, but that's Jesus for you.
After our conversion, because we all became Christians,
I was lead to do something useful with the rest of my life. |

I formed a Country
Gospel group called The Jesus Country Band. I then founded ROM-Aid
International, a U.K. registered charity taking practical, medical
and spiritual help to the many orphans and needy families of
Romania. We have recently retired from that work after some sixteen
years. We took millions of GBP aid to Romania, built a hospital
which has since treated near on 100,000 patients to date, a
Christian Community Center and a small hospice. There were also
thousands of pounds in medicines and an ambulance. I had made some
85 visits to Romania over the years. Most of the poor families in
our care were the product of broken homes where drunkenness and
alcohol was the thing of the day. I'm convinced the Lord had planned
that for us; we certainly had all the credentials for the job. |

" I've finished
reading this book and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It is written in a nice
easy-flowing style, with contributions from his wife, which I thought
was most appropriate. How she managed to stick by him, I'll never know!!
Whether you enjoy it or not may depend on whether you have faith or not.
However, at the end of this read, you can have nothing but admiration
for the author, who not only turned his life around but went on to use
his life to help others. "
