Cinemas Scotia, Millerston St

Scotia Cinema entrance, the hall to the right of the photograph is a church building.
The Scotia Cinema, opened its doors to a Dennistoun public on 24 Mar 1921 with a seating capacity of 1250 it was owned by James Hamilton, the architect was Charles J McNair.

It was sold to the Douglas Picture House Co on Nov.1945, sadly damaged by fire on 17th Feb 1949, rebuilt, closed, became like so many others in the sixties, a bingo hall in 1964 to 1985 then met its demise and was demolished in 1987

Round the corner in Duke Street was Coia's Cafe. It was not uncommon for cafes or confectioners to be located at or near a cinema, so the picture goers could buy their sweeties. When I was a boy and went to this pictures, this would be in the early 1960s, we called it the 'flea-pit', probably because it was a bit run doon
