Glasgow Green.....the Sonnie Pon                                        .

Glasgow Green 'sonnie pon' opened on Saturday 1st July 1916....

Great photograph of Glesga weans playing in the sonn, taken in the 1940's
.

The sonnie pon was our 'wee bit of the beach' on Glasgow Green and many a
happy hour was spent there.

Glesga weans having a rerr terr at the sonnie pon
Greenhead Street tenements in the background. The industrial side of Bridgeton can be seen in this photograph, look at the number of chimneys....

.
APRIL 2003
Greenhead Street tenements can be seen through the trees.
Sadly the weans and the sand are but a distant memory

The white building top left of the picture is the McPhail building which has been
renovated into flats.
